About
Darren Dutton is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator living in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Originally from Long Island, he currently teaches elementary general music at The NYC DOE's P17X in the Bronx. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, specializing in band with a concentration in saxophone. During his time at Crane, he performed with several of the school's top instrumental and vocal ensembles as well as the Crane Chamber Competition-winning Reserved Quartet, a student saxophone quartet formed with his peers in 2019.
Darren is a member of Arbutus and Vines, a band formed with some of his classmates during his time at Crane. This past June, Arbutus and Vines recorded their debut album, which is scheduled for release in mid-2025. He performs with them and with other groups throughout Long Island and New York City, as well as occasionally in the New York capital region. He is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.
When not teaching or performing, Darren spends as much of his time as possible attending jazz jams and other musical events in the New York city. You can often find him at the Tuesday jams at Kismat and Penny Jo's in Washington Heights, as well as various other events throughout the city.
