Darren Dutton is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator teaching music in the New York City Public School System. Originally from Long Island, he currently lives in Washington Heights. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, specializing in band with a concentration in saxophone. He regularly performs throughout the New York metro area on saxophone and electric bass, with occasional gigs on keyboards and various other instruments.
Darren's musical projects include Arbutus and Vines, a progressive pop band releasing their debut album in 2026, the Reserved Quartet, a saxophone quartet comprised of other Crane alumni music educators, and the Joe Malone Quartet, a jazz quartet which regularly performs on Long Island. He is also a consistent member of the Sparrows, a performing ensemble which ranges from straight-ahead jazz to vaudeville to the pit orchestra of an original off-Broadway rock musical. He performs with them and with other groups throughout Long Island and New York City, as well as occasionally in the New York capital region. He is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.
When not teaching or performing, Darren spends as much of his time as possible attending jazz jams and other musical events in the New York city.
